After a slow start, sowing completed on time
June 2016
After a mild, wet winter and a rainy spring, we finally started making chicory ridges in May.
Following a dry spell at the beginning of the month, we started sowing around 10 May. The early
fields were all irrigated twice to obtain a good start. In mid-May we had a nice rainstorm: 25
mm cumulative over a whole day. That was good for the ridges that had already been made. After
that, sowing went well. The temperature was good. The first plants came up in 3-4 days. A single
irrigation was usually enough. At the end of May the last ridges were made and on 6 June the
last field was sown. The latest fields were irrigated twice regularly for a good start. Now, end
of June, growth is good. Some parts of the Noordoostpolder have had a lot of rain. Fortunately
it did not affect our chicory fields. In the drier areas, the first fields have been weeded.

The harvesting season is coming soon now
September 2015
The growing conditions were quite ok.
After the cold and dry spring we had good temperatures and enough rainfall during the summer.
The size of the roots looks well. For a good content we are going to need cold nights in the
coming weeks.
Flevolof introduces a new innovative way of making ridges.

Witloof-Chicory continue growing despite drought
September 2013
During our last field inspection tour, we found already roots with a size of 40mm and up. On
the picture you see witloof-chicory roots of the early variety ECRINE. When the weather
allows, we start harvesting the earliest fields in the first week of October.
Red Chicory roots are growing well
August 2013
This week we have visited some fields of red chicory roots. The field at Gerwin de
Vries’ farm in Espel looks nice and fresh. The roots are getting already some
thickness. This field with variety REDORIA has still at least two months to go.

Flevolof promotes Witloof-Chicory roots on truck
October 2012
Since the beginning of September, a so called ?walking floor truck? is driving trough Europe
with the new Flevolof logo on its sides. On this truck, owned by Henk Hoekstra Transport,
you will find promotion for the witloof-chicory roots of Flevolof. Hoekstra Transport (www.hoekstra-idskenhuizen.nl) is already for
almost 20 years the reliable transport partner of Flevolof. Quite a big part of the
deliveries of witloof-chicory roots takes place( in bulk) in walking floor trucks. From the
outside it was not clear that the truck was loaded with witloof-chicory roots. But now,
nobody can pass by this truck without knowing what is inside?
Floriade 2022 in Almere (Flevoland)
September 2012
The province of Flevoland is chosen to organise the next Floriade. FlevoLof is very happy
with this result. It is a very nice promotion of the area where FlevoLof grows the
witloof-chicory roots. The theme will be "Growing Green Cities". For more info: www.floriadealmere.nl
